Environmental regulations and business factors force the officers of Sitkin Smelting and Refining to consider moving part of their operation to another location. The film follows corporation vice-president Jack Sitkin as he explores business attitudes and plant sites in Mississippi and Alabama. The Alabama Connection is an account of the economic factors involved in this critical decision making process, but it is also a chronicle of human considerations. Through interviews with Sitkin and through coverage of his dealings with others, the film reveals that business is not all computers and cash flow. That it is people, and that its complexities and uncertainties are functions of its humanness.
